We are specialized in the high-quality and color-accurate digitization of paintings, drawings, maps, posters, etc. We can also create giclée prints from these items that are indistinguishable from the originals.

How we work

We work exclusively by appointment and with the client present, because this is the only way we can best align the final result with the client's wishes. This includes retouching as requested and reviewing the proof strips.

About us

We learned the trade by working on the Metamorfoze project of the Royal Library and the National Archives, in which the standard was developed to capture something so color-pure, sharp, undistorted, and with the correct contrast that it can replace the original.


But the projects became so large that we chose to work on a small scale for ourselves in our studio for artists. It turned out to be a great idea that was in high demand.

At the client's request, we can also perform all kinds of digital edits such as retouching, changing backgrounds, adjusting colors, etc. We can also edit the photos used for paintings, such as creating a group portrait from various photos, removing people from a photo, making the colors warmer, etc. Just let us know...

We work in a studio with a black-painted ceiling to prevent reflections, from which a multishot 50MP Hasselblad camera with a special reproduction lens is mounted.

We work with two types of lighting: even, diffuse lighting for flat reproduction, and directional lighting to accentuate surface texture and relief.

The artwork is placed on a height-adjustable table and is captured in one or more parts, depending on its size.

We can then seamlessly stitch more parts together using a special program. This method allows us to handle all sizes and thicknesses, up to several meters in size.


Moreover, it is the safest way of working for the original artwork because it is not touched in any way or placed inside anything.

Seminars en workshops

Since summer 2023, Studio Buitenhof has also acquired the attic of the Passage. This will be primarily used privately as a painting and sculpting workshop, but there are also plans to organize lectures and seminars in this atelier with the goal of: 'Artists for Artists'.

The idea is to have people from one field share the finer points of their expertise with people from another.

For example, a portrait sculptor to portrait painters, an watercolorist to oil painters, or an advertising professional to aspiring entrepreneurs.


We often notice that artists have many questions, and this seems like a fun way to address that.

Scarlet Arrow Finch

From a young age, Scarlet was influenced by her artistic parents and their colorful lifestyle. She was also intrigued by the artists Klimt, Mucha, and Escher, and eventually felt sufficiently inspired to develop her own artistic signature, in which she combines realistic, surrealistic, and contemporary art styles, giving her artworks their distinctive characteristic qualities. We have digitized all of her work for her archive, social media, and other publications. We have also produced a series of 30 x 40 cm giclées that are sold alongside her large paintings.

Roos van der Meijden

Roos van der Meijden is a young woman who paints beautiful, detailed cityscapes and interiors. She clearly has a preference for backlit scenes, glossy floors, and grand, classical interiors. Roos also gives painting lessons, writes drawing instruction books, and offers online courses. To achieve optimal results, she always waits to varnish the painting until it has been digitized. We can adjust the image to achieve the same contrast as the varnished version, but without the risk of unwanted glare.

Huibert van Dorp

Huibert van Dorp is a welcome regular customer with his stories about the high seas and his painted nautical charts. He uses all kinds of materials, from cut-and-paste to oil paint. This work is not infinitely durable, which is why we digitize it and print a copy on acid-free paper with inks guaranteed to be colorfast for up to 400 years! As a true non-commercial free spirit, Huibert has no website.

Where we are located

The studio is located on the first floor of the Passage in The Hague, with the entrance on the Buitenhof side. The access door is situated in the entrance-hall of the restaurant "Hans im Glück". Loading and unloading by car is permitted until 11:30 AM. Tram 17 (Gravenstraat stop) and bus 24 (Buitenhof stop) provide good connections from the Central Station and stop right in front of the door. There is also a taxi stand just 100 meters away, opposite the Binnenhof.
